When you join HCMC, you also become a member of Sweet Adelines International, a highly respected worldwide organization of women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performance. This independent, nonprofit music education association is one of the world’s largest singing organizations for women.

Members extend over five continents and belong to more than 500 choruses and 1,200 quartets. Today’s Sweet Adelines choruses and quartets sing exciting a cappella, four-part harmony music, barbershop style. The music includes special arrangements of today’s ballads and upbeat songs, popular show tunes, and even jazz. Members say that singing the powerfully balanced sounds of barbershop harmony provides a rich, rewarding experience.

SAI organizes the competitions that HCMC participates in, both the Regional events (held in the spring of each year) and the International competitions (held in the fall). HCMC has been fortunate to be Regional champions many times, which earns a chorus the right to compete at the following year’s International Competition. We have competed in locations such as Nashville, Calgary, Orlando, and Honolulu. We won the First Place A. A. Mid-size chorus award at the Harmony Classic Competition in Seattle, 2010. The chorus heads to Houston in October 2011 for their next International Competition. There is no thrill like performing on an international stage with an audience of over 7,000 people.

Our chorus is also home to many competing quartets, including Capri, the current 6th place International Medalists. Once you get comfortable singing with the chorus, you may want to try the challenge of singing in a quartet, first for fun and maybe even in competition.
